November 4, 2002 - Highland Cove Residents Prepare Hundreds of Christmas Shoe Boxes for Needy Children Worldwide
SALT LAKE CITY – Residents of Highland Cove Retirement Community will prepare hundreds of shoe boxes for distribution to needy children in the Middle East, Asia, Africa, Eastern Europe and Central America on Tuesday, November 12, at 2:30 p.m. in the Terrace Club Room. The project is part of the annual Operation Christmas Child campaign headed by Samaritan’s Purse, the Christian relief organization run by Reverend Billy Graham’s son, Franklin Graham.
Each year Highland Cove residents, their families and the community donate hundreds of dollars and supplies to fund the project. Non-perishable items such as toothbrushes, toothpaste, combs, T-shirts, socks, flashlights, toys and money are placed in the boxes and labeled either “girl” or “boy” and marked with one of the following age categories: 2-4 years old, 5-9 years old or 10-14 years old. War-related items, perishables, liquids, medicines and breakables are excluded.
“For the past several years Operation Christmas Child has been a very rewarding and therapeutic project for both the residents and their families,” Stan Ketcher, general manager, said. “The shoe boxes not only bring joy to children around the world, but also to our residents who prepare them. Through this project our residents feel the Christmas spirit, and most importantly, that they are making a difference.“
For those wishing to participate, the deadline for donations is November 8. For more information contact Linnea Ross at 272-8226.

I love living at Highland Cove because I chose to "Be There" in lieu of keeping up a big house and two-acre yard. Being pampered and having gorgeous Utah mountain views is also a perfect joy! You too will agree after the first visit.
