November 27, 2002 - Highland Cove Resident Wins Second Place in National Christmas Card Contest
SALT LAKE CITY – Ninety-one year old Yvonne Lyle was recently chosen as the second place winner in a nationwide Christmas card contest sponsored by Highland Cove Retirement Community parent company, Life Care Centers of America. Residents from 39 retirement and assisted living facilities created and submitted Christmas card designs for judging.
Lyle’s watercolor illustration of a small child gazing at a Christmas
tree, clutching a doll and surrounded by a puppy, kitten and brightly
wrapped gifts, was chosen and combined with first and third place cards
for sale as boxed sets nationwide.
Highland Cove recently honored Lyle during a Towne meeting and presented
the senior artist with a $250 check and an enlarged copy of her artwork.
“Lyle has never had formal training, but has painted as a long-time hobby,“ recreation coordinator, Bonnie Knudson, said. “Her artwork won first place at Highland Cove and was sent on to compete at the national level.”
Knudson continued, “Lyle reads books on the subject and has spent many years working with oil paints. When she moved to a smaller home, Lyle switched to watercolors because it required fewer tools. This has since remained her medium of choice.“
Several of Lyle’s works are currently on display at Highland Cove.

I love living at Highland Cove because I chose to "Be There" in lieu of keeping up a big house and two-acre yard. Being pampered and having gorgeous Utah mountain views is also a perfect joy! You too will agree after the first visit.
