May 7, 2004 - Governor Olene S. Walker To Present Utah's Oldest Surviving Chief Executive with Highland Cove's First Distinguished Service Award at 25th Anniversary Celebration
SALT LAKE CITY - Highland Cove Retirement Community will celebrate its 25th anniversary with a Distinguished Service Award presentation. Governor Olene S. Walker will honor former Governor Calvin L. Rampton with the award on Friday, May 14 at 3 p.m. during an open house in the Highland Cove Hotel Club Room.
Additional festivities will include music, refreshments and Highland Cove resident "Milestone" displays. There will also be a big-band dance and resident promenade from 7 to 9 p.m. with music by "The Sax Machine."
"Over the years Cal has excelled in every pursuit always doing his job with a high degree of integrity and professionalism," Governor Walker said. "He has earned the respect and admiration of all those who have worked with him. Moreover, he has made many lifelong friends along the way."
Stan Ketcher, Highland Cove general manager, added, "We could not think of a better way to commemorate 25 great years than to recognize one of our great residents and one of Utah's great chief executives, Cal Rampton. It will be such an honor to have Governor Walker present Governor Rampton with our first Distinguished Service Award. He is truly an asset to our state and community."
Highland Cove stands as the largest retirement community, out of 17, providing more than 10% of independent living accommodations to Salt Lake Valley. Highland Cove currently has 260 residents (independent and assisted) with an occupancy rate of 95%.
Of these occupants, 21% have lived at Highland Cove for five years or more with 25 or the 21% maintaining occupancy for 10 or more years. Highland Cove was also awarded 2003 Best of State for assisted living.
"I couldn't say enough good about Highland Cove," twenty-two-year resident Irene Bednarik, said. "My experience as a resident has been great. There's a lot to do and I enjoy the variety of activities such as aerobics, walking club and ballroom dancing."

Highland Cove, owned by Life Care Centers of America, offers living accommodations to more than 250 residents. Highland Cove provides a care continuum with independent and assisted living, and intermediate nursing care.
